About

My name is Jo (Joanna) Ayela Aleh, I was not born with that name, but it is the one I eventually chose for myself – It seems to run in the family, neither of my parents use their birth names…

I was an Olympic athlete for 12 years, I have been to three Olympic Games – Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016, and have come away with a Gold and Silver medal and an incredible amount of memories! The sweet and sour, the happy and sad, the glory and the falling down hard, its all there. Life goes on around it all, and I would not be who I am today without the journey I have taken… Who ever exactly that is I am not always sure! Work in progress.. aren’t we all…

This is the beginning of a new journey, into the unknown for me, after 12 years of living in four year cycles, every month, every week planned out in order to reach a goal, a Gold Medal at the Olympics.  So what happens when you achieve that childhood dream at the age of 26 as I did? You go again, to do it better, and through the pure performance four years later you do.. Then what. It’s a little tricky when you only ever looked as far as the medal dais, to actually know what you want to do next…

But a few things are clear, no matter what I am doing, some things are important to me: Food, Fitness & Lifestyle, and making the most of the Journey I take along the way. I guess those are leftovers from years of being an athlete and I daresay they mean something different to me now…

This blog is is a way for me to share a little of my journey, and a little of those elements that bring me happiness no matter where in the world I am, or what I am doing! With the hope that maybe, just maybe, one of you takes something for you from this life of mine, to help on your own path. I will be open and honest (You may notice I don’t do filters so much 🙂 ), and lets just see where it goes!!
